Finance & Taxation ComplianceThe Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN), on June 09, 2026, has extended the implementation timeline for two important E-Way Bill system functionalities that were originally scheduled to go live on 15 June 2026. The extension has been granted following representations from trade and industry highlighting the need for additional time to undertake system modifications, API and ERP integration, testing, and master data updates.

The following functionalities will now become effective from August 01 2026:

Mandatory capture of "Ship To GSTIN" in Bill-To/Ship-To transactions.

Voluntary Closure of E-Way Bill functionality, enabling taxpayers to voluntarily close an E-Way Bill under specified circumstances.

GSTN has advised taxpayers, GST Suvidha Providers (GSPs), ERP vendors, and other stakeholders to utilize the extended period for completing necessary technological and operational preparations to ensure a smooth transition when the functionalities become mandatory from 1 August 2026. The extension provides businesses with additional time to align their systems and processes with the upcoming compliance requirements
